From Pamplona to Bilbao; A Journey Through Basque Region
Dear fellow students, buckle up! If you are an adventurer like us and penchant for pintxos, let me regale you with stories of a road trip from Pamplona to the vibrant city of Bilbao. Spoiler alert: it is more than just the Guggenheim Museum.
First things first- get to the bus station near Indara ( the most popular club for Erasmus students in town) and enjoy in 3 hours road trip through beautiful scenery all over the way. Rolling hills, small villages and charming Basque landscape will take your breath away. Cue the road trip playlist and let the adventure begin!
On the way to Bilbao make a stop in San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, a breathtaking city surrounded by nature, sea and fresh salty air. If you are a fan of Game of Thrones as many people, you will learn that this places is one of the many places where the GoT was filmed. You may know it as a Dragonstone, Daenerys Targaryen´s castle.
Next stop- Bilbao! As many of you know Bilbao is know to be a host of one of the three Guggenheim Museum in the world. This magnificent building designed by Frank Gehry is a art by itself. You do not need to be an art enthusiast to appreciate the intriguing installations and the giant puppy made of flowers guarding the entrance. Prepare yourself to see amazing installations from artist all over the world. And take your time, appreciate the art around you!
After an art-filled afternoon, take a walk along the Nervion River and look at the White Bridge, a futuristic masterpiece that lights up during the night which will make you feel like you have stepped into the sci-fi film. Do not forget guys, take a good Instagram story! If the weather serves you, take a swim in the sea that is only 20 minutes away from Bilbao. Soak up the sun and enjoy good vibrations around you.But Bilbao is not only known for art, museums and galleries, this is a place of pintxo paradise. Try one of the best pintxos in Basque region along with Txakoli- the local white wine which makes the perfect combination.
The old town of the city is full of vibrant stores, bars restaurants and souvenir shops along with energetic people. Wherever you go, you will find beautiful buildings, fountains, and monuments. While in the center visit Euskalduna Conference Hall and a Concert Hall.
So dear students, prepare yourself to experience the city of Bilbao, a city that will take your breath away and leave you with a camera full of lovely memories.
